An audit, within SEO, is the process of analysing how a given website meets best practices and performs in search and whether anything could be having a detrimental impact. An in-depth audit should explore all aspects of a website’s on-page, off-page, and technical elements.

There is no set way for a tech SEO audit to look as long as it results in a plan of fixes and implementation that will produce measurable results.

You can perform an audit for several reasons, such as obtaining a new client, attempting to uncover an issue after a decline in performance, or being on the back of a website migration.

One of the advantages of an SEO audit is that it can also be a great way to keep your strategy up to date.

For example, when I complete an audit, I use the issues I discovered and set them out in a roadmap to tackle. This roadmap can change if another priority item should appear, but it sets out the strategy for improving the website for an allocated amount of time.
