Evergreen Content

Evergreen Content
« Back to Glossary Index

Evergreen content is content that remains relevant, useful, and valuable to readers over a long period of time, regardless of when it is published. Just as an evergreen tree keeps its leaves all year round, evergreen content does not become outdated or lose its appeal over time; it continues to attract traffic, generate links, and serve its audience long after it was first created.

Evergreen content is typically focused on topics that have consistent, ongoing search demand rather than subjects tied to a specific news cycle, trend, or moment in time. Examples include how-to guides, glossaries, FAQs, tutorials, and foundational explainers that answer questions people are always likely to be searching for.

Examples of evergreen topics:

  • “How to write a meta description”
  • “What is a backlink?”
  • “Beginner’s guide to keyword research”

In contrast, non-evergreen (or time-sensitive) content includes:

  • News articles and press releases
  • Seasonal campaigns and promotions
  • Round-ups of annual statistics or trends

It is one of the most efficient long-term investments in an SEO strategy. Because it addresses topics with sustained search demand, it has the potential to rank consistently and accumulate backlinks and traffic over time without requiring constant updates. It also tends to be highly linkable, as other websites are more likely to reference a comprehensive, timeless guide than a news piece that will quickly become irrelevant.

While evergreen content may still benefit from periodic refreshes to ensure accuracy, its core value remains largely intact, making it a reliable, compounding asset for organic visibility.
