First Contentful Paint [FCP]

First Contentful Paint (FCP) measures the time it takes for the browser to render a “human-perceived” element on the page, such as an image, text block, or other element.

This difference between FCP and Largest Contentful Paint focuses on when the user receives helpful information rather than when a browser loads a particular large element.

This matters as Google recognised the difference between what a human perceives as valuable from a user experience perspective and what a browser or bot may see first, such as when a background colour has changed, or a style is applied.

A good First Contentful Paint can reduce the bounce rate and improve your conversion rate because there should be less waiting time until a user can interact with the page. With fewer distractions, users are more likely to complete one of your website goals.
